- This incarnation of the Developer CD, Volume V ("Night of the Living Disc"),
- has the familiar components you Apple II mavens expect, along with several
- brand-spanking-new goodies you won't be able to wait to get your hands on,
- once you find out they're here. Some of the new goodies you'll find here (and
- in the Apple II folder on the HFS partition) are:
-
- * IIgs System Software 5.0.3
- * Apple II System Software 3.2
- * HyperCard IIgs 1.0B20 (beta release)
- * GSBug 1.5b9 -and- 1.5b10
- * International System Software (specifically, French IIgs 5.0.2)
- * _develop_ #4, including Picter, a sample IIgs Printer Driver
- * Universal Access software for the IIgs, including CloseView, Video
- Keyboard and Easy Access
- * QuickConsole, an init that speeds up single-character output to the
- Console Driver under 5.0.3
- * Updated and enhanced APW (and MPW IIgs) interfaces
- * Updated APW utilities from Greg Branche and Matt Deatherage
- * New Rez tutors from Tim Swihart
- * The very latest in Apple II Technical Notes and File Type Notes, including
- a completely new index across Technical, File Type and Sample Code Notes
- * Plus new versions of IR, My Word, Visit AppleSoft, and other goodies
- sprinkled throughout the disk.
-
- We've also included an "Icons" folder for the first time so you can simply
- double-click many of the files on the CD and automatically launch applcations
- from the CD. And if all this wasn't enough, there's now a complete index of
- all files on the disk (generated by ProSEL 16), except for the text files for
- develop #4 which are going to mysteriously appear on the disk before it gets
- pressed.
-
- There's been a lot of work put into the Apple II content of the disc, and
- we're very interested in your opinions, good or bad. Tell us what you think
- of the way the disc is organized, what should or shouldn't be on it, and
- anything else you can think to mention. We're available at AppleLink address
- DEV.CD or in US mail at:
-
- Developer CD Feedback
- Apple Computer, Inc.
- 20525 Mariani Ave. MS: 75-3B
- Cupertino, CA 95014
-
- Even more goodies are coming for Volume VI, so keep those cards and letters
- coming.

-
- MATT DEATHERAGE had no idea what he was getting into when he suggested "Night
- of the Living Disc" as a name for the Developer CD or he might well have opted
- for "Mr. Disc Stomps on my Happiness." In addition to his responsibilities as
- DTS Technical Lead for Apple II and IIgs System Software, his duties with File
- Types and Technical Notes and his predisposition to writing articles for
- _develop_, he now gets to play with the Apple II content of the Developer CD
- as long as he doesn't hide too many messages in the content. He won a recent
- "Rage" game with 275 points and is currently quite pleased with himself.
